Съобщава се, че оксидативният стрес (OS), свързан с продуктите от разграждането на глюкозата, като метилглиоксал, е свързан с перитонеално влошаване при пациенти, лекувани с перитонеална диализа (PD). Използването на общи антиоксидантни агенти обаче е ограничено поради вредното им въздействие. Това проучване има за цел да изясни влиянието на новия антиоксидант молекулярен водород (H2) върху перитонеалната OS, използвайки редукционно състояние на албумин като маркер. Проби от отпадъчни води и кръв от 6 редовни пациенти с PD са получени по време на теста за перитонеално равновесие, използвайки стандартен диализат и обогатен с водород диализат. Редокс състоянието на албумина в оттока и кръвта се определя с помощта на високоефективна течна хроматография. Средният дял на намаления албумин (ƒ (HMA)) в отпадъчните води е значително по-висок при обогатен с H2 диализат (62,31 ± 11,10%), отколкото при стандартен диализат (54,70 ± 13. 08%). По същия начин серумът ƒ (HMA) след приложение на обогатен с водород диализат (65,75 ± 7,52%) е значително по-висок от този след стандартния диализат (62,44 ± 7,66%).
Трансперитонеалното приложение на Н2 намалява перитонеалната и системната ОС.
